Check off 72 hour kits!

About 7 years ago, I put together two 72 hour kits for Olivia and I.  Bryan and I have been wanting to do the same for him, Leyton and Brooke.  So we pulled out our kits today to see what we needed and made the realization that all of our "food items" were at least 7 years old!  So we went to work organizing what we had and then making a shopping list for what we needed.  We then went to Wal-mart and debated the in's and out's of whether we would eat "SPAM" if we needed to, or "TUNA."  (side note... Bryan hates tuna, mayo and pickles... so he would rather starve than eat tuna on crackers - which is what my kit had in it originally.  So we opted for the Spam for him and the kids... and I took the Tuna!)  We packaged up all the toiletry items, first aid kits, bottles of water and all the food items... enough to keep one happy for 72 hours and packed them up into 4 back-packs!  We were able to get all the food items for about $110 for all five of us!!  We also plan on making copies of our important documents and loading the back-packs with some cash... but we will do that tomorrow! One more thing checked off our "to-do" list!

Oh, I almost forgot... we found a good person to donate the 7 year old 72 hour kits too... the homeless man's dog on the corner of highway 152!   I couldn't bear to just throw it all away!  So we plan on doing this every two years... that way at least the homeless man can eat the food next time!  Bryan just said that "he hopes we don't hear on the news tomorrow that a homeless man lost his dog to expired food  donated by a cheap man and woman on the corner of hwy 152!"  I'm hoping a blog can't be used against you in a court of law!
